Sunny King, a legendary blockchain developer, is the creator of the three cryptocurrencies VEE, Peercoin and Primecoin. Each provides important advancements to the technology that powers cryptocurrencies.Peercoin was the first to use proof-of-stake instead of proof-of-work to secure the blockchain. Proof-of-stake is a method that requires very little energy for mining. What Is PoS?
Proof of Stake (PoS) is an algorithm that the blockchain network aims to achieve distributed consensus. It has the same purpose as Proof of Work but utilizes a different process to reach the goal. It is increasing in popularity and being adopted by various cryptocurrencies. Rather than requiring the prover to show computational work, PoS requires the prover to show ownership of a certain amount of cryptocurrency. The creator of the new block is chosen in a deterministic way, depending on its wealth, also defined as stake. What Is Peercoin?
Peercoin, also known as PPCoin or PPC, is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency utilizing both proof-of-stake and proof-of-work systems.
Peercoin is based on an August 2012 paper which listed the authors as Scott Nadal and Sunny King.[4] Sunny King, who also created Primecoin, is a pseudonym.[6] Nadal's involvement had diminished by November 2013, leaving King as Peercoin's sole core developer.
Peercoin was inspired by bitcoin, and it shares much of the source code and technical implementation of bitcoin. The Peercoin source code is distributed under the MIT/X11 software license.
Unlike bitcoin, Namecoin, and Litecoin, Peercoin does not have a hard limit on the number of possible coins, but is designed to eventually attain an annual inflation rate of 1%. There is a deflationary aspect to Peercoin as the transaction fee of 0.01 PPC/kb paid to the network is destroyed. This feature, along with increased energy efficiency, aim to allow for greater long-term scalability.
What Is PrimeCoin?
Primecoin (sign: Ψ; code: XPM) is a peer-to-peer open source cryptocurrency that implements a unique scientific computing proof-of-work system.[2] Primecoin's proof-of-work system searches for chains of prime numbers.[2] Primecoin was created by a person or group of people who use the pseudonym Sunny King. This entity is also related with the cryptocurrency Peercoin.[3][4] The Primecoin source code is copyrighted by a person or group called “Primecoin Developers”, and distributed under a conditional MIT/X11 software license.[5]
Primecoin has been described[by whom?] as the main cause of spot shortages of dedicated servers because at the time it was only possible to mine the currency with CPUs.[1][6] For the same reason, Primecoin used to be the target of malware writers.[7][8] In April 2018 the creator of ZClassic, Rhett Creighton, proposed forking Primecoin with Bitcoin to create Bitcoin Prime.
What Is Vee?
VEE (Virtual Economy Era) is the third project of Sunny King, creator of Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus. Its vision is to build a blockchain database cloud, which is a fundamental blockchain platform like ETH and EOS. The VEE mainnet has already been live!
Based on PoS, Sunny King further improved the blockchain consensus from a mathematical perspective with a brand new design called "Supernode Proof of Stake," or SPoS.
